The Romeo & Juliet performance has been a good experience for me. I liked to act and speak infront of public so this is a chance for me to do it. My role was Juliet so the lines weren't that hard to remember. Furthermore, the preparation for the performance has been a fruitful one because I get to bond with my friends, and they are very cooperative.

When the big day came, I was feeling very excited because we have worked hard for this day, and I was praying that nothing goes wrong because if not it'll be wasted. I was feeling nervous at first but it got away when I started to act. After the performance, we had a small group party to celebrate our successful performance.

Learning Log 6
I learnt a lot of new words in the literary devices, such as gustatory, kinesthetic, oxymoron and many more. Understanding words is very important, because you will not get what it means if you do not understand it fully.

I also learnt how authors tend to add these literary devices to their poems or peotry to make it more interesting. It's very creative. For example, an author can repeat the same words to stress its importance. It can also describe something in a vivid and detailed way, this way readers can imagine the image the narrator is trying to depict.

I learnt how to approach an unseen poem, and how to fully understand by asking questions to ourselves to ensure that we really understand it. We should ask ourselves the 4 Ws and 1 Hs (Why, what, where, when, how). To really understand it, we should let our imagination flow by itself.

Also, we should read the passage around 2 to 3 times if we do not understand it. I also learnt two new techniques, which is PEEL and IBC. I also learnt how to create beautiful essays. We should describe things well, and stress their actions or physical sculpture. We should try to shorten it, so that it would not be long and draggy.

What have you learnt through the performance, good practices, commendation on good work done by peers and self evaluation.

I learnt that speaking up during the Macbeth performance is important. If you don't, people might not hear what you're trying to say and it might be a waste of time. Also, it can be really annoying when you're paying attention but you can't seem to hear what a person is trying to say. Furthermore, I think being organised and well prepared for this performance is important. You will never know when things might go wrong.

For the performances, I think props makes a huge impact. You really have to put in alot of effort in your props so that you can have the confidence when acting infront of everybody. If you end up with nothing, or plain props, it can be really boring and people might not want to pay attention. As they say, 'first impression counts'. If you show a sloppy kind of performance, people will not be interested and you'll only waste your time.

I think my peers really put on a great show. I really enjoyed watching different kinds of performances by other people. It made me cracked up for a while. Everyone has different and creative ideas so it's really nice to see different varieties instead of just the same kind of performance over and over again.

I think I did well for my performance. I was really scared before performing and there was butterflies in my stomach. I was scared if things didn't go well. But overall I did have fun. I learnt alot from this and I hope to apply them on the next act which is Romeo and Juliet.

Act 1 Scene 1 (Invidual roles playing as witches)

After Mrs Woo selected our group members using the number selector, thank god I was grouped with Angeline - the chaotic person and Yeelin - potential leader. We were easy going and didn't have to decide long about who should be who. I was Witch 2, Yeelin was Witch 1 and Angeline was Witch 3. We all planned on what accent we should use.

Lesson on Act 1 Scene 2

Act 1 Scene 2 is about the bleeding Captain who managed to survive the battles and update King Duncan. He told King Duncan about how Macbeth got to defeat Macdonwald. Then Ross came and updated Kind Duncan that he shouldn't be glad because more trouble is coming along the way. The Norwegian King took advantage of this chance and decided to attack, but hail Macbeth and Banquo fought fearless and defeated them. They made a treaty if the Norwegian King wanted his men to be buried. At first I did not understand this passage, but thanks to the help of my friends I fully understood it. Literature can be quite hard.

Group Discussion on Comic Grid

I was grouped with people I knew well, so discussing wasn't a problem. It was smooth sailing. We decided to draw 5 scenes because there's not much to draw about. I decided to go for a more of "young handsome kings and princes" which was different. Old kings with beard is quite common and boring so I decided to try something new.

Description of the 3 witches

Acting out the part of the 3 witches was really fun for me. I learnt how to act it out well. I got a chance to act it out infront of everyone in class. It wasn't easy for me to contain my laughter, because I thought it was really funny. By either using a high or low pitch, it can make the witch interesting. I really like the act and I look out in doing more scenes because I really like acting.

Discussion of 'superstitious'

The discussion of the superstitious was really fun as I get to interact with people around. Not to forget that the members in my group were people I like or I was close with so I really enjoyed it. My 'superstitious' worksheet was really long so I think people might have thought it was boring because theirs was much shorter.

Presentation of 'superstitious'

I did get to present mine but I didn't remember much. The next lesson, the other member presented so I did get to enjoy the best of both worlds I guess. I get to present, and I get to see my partner present. I like to speak up more so that I can increase my confidence. Hopefully this will help me.

What have you learnt about Cinquain?

I learnt that the word 'Cinquain' is a french word and it means 'a five-line poem'. It only uses a couple of words per lines and it is quite easy. Cinquain describes someone or something in a fast, and easy way to understand. In Cinquain, lines generally do not rhyme so it makes it easy.

Comments about the lesson.

The lesson was really fun, as we were all gathered into groups of four. We bonded with one another, and communicated well. If we do not understand something, at least we can ask one another. The lesson overall, taught us alot of things as every group got to share their own cinquain and some of them were really unique. Also, it allows us to think out of the box and share ideas. Cinquain is easy, so it's simple and manageable for everyone to do.

Suggestions for improvement.

I think that teachers should let pupils do the cinquain on their own so that we can spot one's weakness. Teachers should call out the pupils one by one to let them present their work. This way, we can have different opinions and rooms for improvement. But overall, I think the lesson was really fun.
